The Bronze Age barracks marks one of the most consequential transitions in military history: the shift from a tribe that fights when it must to a state that maintains professional soldiers as a permanent institution. From the palace economies of Mycenaean Greece to the garrison records of Hattusa and military rosters on Mesopotamian clay tablets, organized states fed, housed, and equipped their warriors in dedicated facilities — and those warriors trained together in a way that produced cohesion no levy army could match. Equipment was stored communally, weapons issued centrally, and veterans passed knowledge to recruits in a structured setting. Build multiple barracks when war approaches — production speed scales with the number you construct, and in the Bronze Age the side that fields more trained infantry faster almost always wins.
