Mace Fighter

The mace fighter of the Bronze Age carries one of the oldest dedicated weapons of war — the flanged bronze mace. Where early stone-headed clubs relied on brute mass, the flanged mace concentrates impact energy along metal ridges that bite through bronze helmets and dent plate-like cuirasses. Rulers of early Mesopotamia and Egypt are depicted on temple reliefs smiting enemies with just such a weapon, making the mace a symbol of royal martial power. On the battlefield, mace fighters formed the hammer of the infantry line — placed where the fighting was densest and the enemy's armor was thickest. Heavy equipment makes them slower than lighter swordsmen, but far more dangerous against armored targets. In the game they are excellent against other heavy infantry but lose ground against faster, more maneuverable units with longer reach.
