Riding Stable
DE Reitstall
By the Early Middle Ages the riding stable had become far more than a shelter for horses: it was the training ground of an entire warrior class. The knight and his destrier represented years of patient investment — a warhorse needed four to six years of conditioning before it held its nerve in a charge, and its rider a lifetime of practice to control it one-handed while striking with lance or sword. Carolingian, Byzantine, and Umayyad cavalry traditions maintained specialized facilities where horses were schooled in formation riding and controlled aggression even amid battle's din. Breeding records and equipment fitting were managed under one roof. In the game the riding stable unlocks Early Medieval heavy cavalry — knights and iron cavalry whose charge shatters infantry formations lighter horsemen cannot break. Pair it with a garrison to give those mounted units the infantry screen they need against halberd and pike formations.
