The Teutonic Order, originally founded to care for wounded crusaders in the Holy Land, shifted its focus from the early 13th century onward to the Prussian and Baltic crusades, where it built its own monastic state. Its mounted knights fought in heavy mail armor bearing the distinctive black cross on a white mantle, organized under strict monastic discipline that set them apart from secular knighthood — obedience, vows of poverty, and permanent readiness for war defined the order. In the game the Teutonic Knight is a solid, armored cavalry unit with good melee damage, balanced between offense and durability.
