From 1943 the Luftwaffe fitted the Ju 87 with two 3.7 cm underwing cannons — a specialized tank-hunter pilots called the 'Cannon Bird'. Instead of a diving bomb run, this variant attacked armored targets in a shallow approach, where its heavy tungsten-core rounds could punch through even massive Soviet turret armor. Hans-Ulrich Rudel, its most famous pilot, is credited with over 500 tank kills flying it. In the game this stage hits harder and carries more fuel for longer sorties, but remains at its core the same vulnerable airframe.
