The B-29, deployed from 1944 in the Pacific War, was the most technically advanced aircraft of its time: a pressurized cabin let crews operate above 9,000 meters without oxygen masks, well beyond the reach of most Japanese interceptors and flak. Remote-controlled, computer-aimed defensive turrets replaced the traditional gunner crew. Flying from the Marianas, it carried out the firebombing campaign against Japanese cities and ultimately the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the game the B-29 is a heavy strategic bomber with concentrated damage against buildings — expensive and slow, but nearly impossible to stop with conventional anti-air fire.
