Town Hall
DE Rathaus
The medieval town hall was one of the great institutional achievements of the Middle Ages — physical proof that a community had won the right to govern itself. From the Rathaus of Lübeck to the communal palaces of Florence and Siena, these buildings housed councils, courts, and treasuries through which citizens — not lords — made local decisions. Their deliberately monumental facades and tower silhouettes announced civic pride and reminded every prince that this town had charters that could not easily be overridden. Militarily the town hall served as the nerve center from which burghers organized their defense. In the game it is the cornerstone of your medieval administration, enabling a wider roster of trained units and mid-tier civic and military technologies. Keep it well-garrisoned — a town hall that falls to the enemy takes with it the production and research capacity your entire war effort depends upon.
