Medieval Fortress

By the late Middle Ages the fortress has matured into a full castle: a gatehouse with portcullis, machicolated curtain walls, round corner towers under tiled caps and a tall keep. Three crossbow stands sweep the approaches while the keep-mounted scorpion drives heavy bolts into advancing besiegers. In game it remains the most expensive but hardest link of your defence — armies that ignore it die under its walls.
