Twin-Engine Fighter-Bomber
DE Zweimotoriger Jagdbomber
When a single engine was not enough, designers gave their aircraft two — and the twin-engine fighter-bomber became the heavy fist of tactical airpower. Germany's Messerschmitt Bf 110 was conceived as a Zerstörer, a destroyer of enemy aircraft, but found its true calling strafing Allied supply lines and night-fighting over the Reich. Britain's de Havilland Mosquito, built of plywood at a time when metal was scarce, proved even more versatile — fast enough to outrun most interceptors while carrying a bomb load that rivaled medium bombers. Twin engines meant greater range, heavier armament, and the ability to absorb damage that would kill a single-engine design. This unit delivers serious destruction against fortified positions and naval targets, but its size and weight make it a poor choice in tight turning engagements against nimble single-engine fighters.
