Light Cavalry
DE Leichte Kavallerie
The Light Lance Cavalry of Antiquity represents a major step forward from the Bronze Age scout: an iron-tipped lance, more durable armor of layered linen or early scale construction, and horses selectively bred for greater size and speed. Ancient Greek, Persian, and Macedonian armies all deployed such riders, and Alexander the Great's Companion cavalry — though heavier — descended from this tactical tradition. The iron lance delivered lethal impact in a charging pass and could be retained for multiple strikes unlike thrown javelins. Against infantry lacking pikes or spears, a massed lance charge was devastating. In game this unit combines excellent movement speed with a strong charge bonus that diminishes in prolonged melee. He is vulnerable to spear infantry who can set formations to receive charges and to ranged units who whittle him down before he closes the gap.
