Hwatcha I

The hwatcha is one of the most remarkable weapons the medieval world produced: a Korean multiple rocket launcher on a wooden wheeled cart, capable of launching dozens of rocket-propelled arrows in a single devastating salvo. Developed during the Goryeo dynasty and refined under Joseon, it was Korea's answer to mass-formation tactics — where a single arrow felled one man, a hwatcha salvo saturated a company with explosive fire simultaneously. Powder rockets were mounted in rows of wooden tubes, each arrow fitted with a small incendiary charge that burned on impact. The weapon was particularly effective against densely massed infantry and cavalry charges where individual accuracy mattered less than volume of fire. At the battle of Haengju in 1593, hwatcha fire contributed decisively to a Korean defense outnumbered ten to one. In game the Hwatcha I is a fragile but powerful area-denial weapon, excelling against packed formations, though slow reload leaves it vulnerable to cavalry raids.
