Field Farm

The Bronze Age field farm marks one of history's most consequential transitions: systematic cultivation with an animal-drawn plow rather than a hand digging-stick. The ard — a simple scratch plow pulled by oxen — broke open heavier soils, multiplying the area a single family could work several times over. Combined with basic irrigation, Bronze Age farming in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Aegean basin produced the surpluses that fed specialist soldiers, craftsmen, and priests who never touched a plow themselves. In the game the field farm produces food on a continuous harvest cycle, feeding a population and military that foraging alone could never sustain. Place it on flat, low-elevation ground near water for maximum yield. Build several in sequence — a single farm feeds a settlement, but the army you need to defend it requires many working in parallel.
